Kittatinny talent shines at Teen Arts

NEWTON. Students participated in the Sussex County Teen Arts Festival, with a day of celebrating dance, music, drama, writing, and art.

More than 150 Kittatinny students attended the Sussex County Teen Arts Festival, joining other students from around the county to celebrate a day of the arts. The day consisted of music, vocal, dance and drama performances, visual art exhibits, creative writing and poetry recitals, video presentations, and free "hands-on" workshops taught by professional artists in a variety of different disciplines.

This year, 33 pieces of Visual Art from Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Lightcap, and Mr. Soutter’s classes were selected to move on to other Art Exhibitions:

Brielle Morgan, Jessica Contino, Kathryn Merrill, Natalie Dube, Mari Robins, Gabe Grodsky, Jessica VanGlahn, Kora Garcia, Kai Pender, Rachel Loevlie, Sarah Marchioni, Aiden Wesighan, and Abby LoCascio all had pieces selected for the SCCC Select Exhibit for the Performing Arts Center, Sponsored by Sussex County Community College Art Department and Cultural Affairs. This show will be on display from 3/26-4/16.

Andrew VanHook, Maddie Sienkiewicz, Brooke VanGordan, Sam Space, and Tess Boland all had pieces selected for the SCA&HC Public Gallery Exhibit at the Sussex County Judicial Center from 3/28-4/16.

Aiden Wesighan had a piece selected for the Encore Gallery at the Newton Theater from 7/3-8/31.

Natalie Dube, Sarah Marchioni, Jessica VanGlahn, Kora Garcia, Kai Pender, and Rachel Loevlie had pieces selected to be exhibited at the Bristol Glen Exhibit.

Jordalin Taveras, Annika Johnson, and Lily Johnson also had their pieces recognized!

The Chamber Singers with Ms. Kane filled the Performing Arts Center with their beautiful voices as they performed A Choral Fanfare (by John Rutter) and Hope, Faith, Life, Love (by Eric Whitaker). Their critiquer even stated that they were so good they were “Carnegie Hall ready”, and they were selected to perform at the State Teen Arts Festival! Mr. Matthes' student Vaughn Corpus was also selected to perform at the State Teen Arts Festival for his beautiful performance of Over the Rainbow.

Mrs. Paparella’s students Rayna Butler, Michaela Bennett, Annika Johnson, and Gabe Johnson shared their beautiful poetry with their Creative Writing submissions. Michaela’s piece was selected for the State Teen Arts Festival.

Mr. Cheski’s Video student Cole Loncor premiered their videos to great acclaim.

Mrs. Tooker’s Clothing students Miranda Mazzola and Jordalin Taveras showed off their textile designs; Miranda’s was selected as an outstanding piece.

Mr.Carnegie’s CAD students Kathryn Merrill and Stephanie Hanna also exhibited their designs in this new category at Teen Arts. Kate’s piece was one of the selections for Select Exhibit previously mentioned. The school sends congratulations to all of the outstanding artists and their teachers, and to all the other students who participated in this year’s festival.
