Newton High School Robotics students put their skills to good use this December by helping with the Season of Hope toy drive by adjusting bikes and other sports equipment as well as sorting toys that would later be distributed to children in need throughout Sussex County. "Team Aperture 3142" of the Newton Robotics Team visited Project Self-Suffiiciency (PSS) in Newton to help adjust bikes, sort toys, and prepare for the holiday givewaway of presents. PSS is a nonprofit organization in Sussex County that gathers donations each year and runs a Season of Hope toy drive for families in need.

The team adjusted bicycles by making certain tires were properly infated, gears were meshing, and bells rang. In addition, the team inflated basketballs, footballs and soccer balls. All teams worked together to sort toys and prepare them for distribution. The Newton Robotics Team is a high school FIRST Robotics Competition team that has proudly served and contributed to expanding Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics education (STEM) since its establishment in 2009. Coached by Hofman, the program ensures that 9th-12th gaders have the opportunity to experience STEM in a hands-on way that will help them consider STEM careers.
