What's the purpose of different types of fluoride?

When using fluoride trays (not the varnish that is painted on your teeth), there are different types of fluoride to choose from such as Stannous fluoride, acidulated phosphate, and neutral sodium. All of these help to remineralize enamel and prevent future cavities, as well as reducing hypersensitivity of the teeth. However, stannous fluoride may have a stronger taste, and both acidulated and stannous have the potential of staining restorations, such as porcelain crowns, bridges, etc. For those with restorations, if taking a fluoride tray, neutral sodium fluoride would be the best recommendation.
