NEWTON — On Friday, June 29, The Center for Prevention and Counseling’s Recovery Community Center is hosting “Families in Recovery” from 5-8 pm with a movie at 8 pm at their 65 Newton-Sparta Road location. This family friendly and recovery friendly event is an opportunity for families who share similar experiences to connect and develop positive relationships. This event was created by families in recovery for families impacted by addiction. Countless children are affected by a loved one’s substance use. Many suffer silently, ashamed and afraid to express their worries for fear of judgement. Inspired by addiction recovery, we want to show them that millions of families face the same issue, and are thriving.

One of the event organizers had this to say, “My passion for helping children and families is motivated by my own experience as a person in long term recovery. I am a mom of a young boy who is the light of my life and the inspiration for this event. Our family has seen all sides of the opioid epidemic and I am thankful that I have remained in continuous abstinence for 6 years. I love to help others know that it is possible to get better and find recovery. I plan on teaching my son not only about the dangers of addiction, but about the miracle of recovery!”

The evening will include individual activities for children of all ages as well as for families, together, to strengthen bonds. A local family will speak candidly on their experience with recovery. Several games and activities for kids and adults as well as food and ice cream will be available. A recovery-friendly movie will be aired at 8 pm. This event is for all kinds of families, not limited to parents. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins & siblings are all encouraged to join in the evening! Dinner will be served at 5:00 pm followed by activities to include a gratitude scavenger hunt and talent show. Email amber@centerforprevention.org or call (973)940-2966 for more information.
