Sparta resident exhibits art work Elaine Kurie at George Segale Studio
Artist Elaine Kurie
Sparta — George Segale Studio is hosting ‘Traces of Light,’ a solo exhibition of oil paintings by Elaine Kurie, from June 1 to June 30 at the George Segale Studio at 10 White Deer Plaza in Sparta. The opening reception is Saturday June 2 from 6 to 10 pm and the public is invited. The gallery is open on weekdays from 3 to 8 pm and weekends from noon to 5 pm. Kurie, a Lake Mohawk resident, said, “It was great to see a gallery open in Sparta again and to meet George Segale, who is a very personable and talented photographer and videographer. I enjoyed showing my paintings at the Drue Chryst Gallery years ago, and I’m excited for the opportunity now to share my newest work once again in Lake Mohawk. "I named this exhibition ‘Traces of Light’ because it reflects my favorite time for painting, the late afternoon. It’s at this time when the shadows lengthen and the high-contrast lighting at the end of the day brings a unique dimension to even the simplest objects.” Dr. Lynn L. Siebert, director of Morris Arts Participation & Communication writes of Kurie's work: "Viewers can marvel at contemporary realist artist Elaine Kurie’s exceptional ability to capture texture, light and line with astounding precision and elegance in her oils." Some of Kurie’s recent awards and exhibitions have included: 1st Place in the Portrait Society of America’s Members 2016 Competition, the Butler Institute of American Art Award, Artist of the Month nomination in April 2017 by Artist’s Magazine, ‘Artist to Watch’ by Southwest Art Magazine November 2017 issue, George Segal Gallery Group Exhibition at Montclair State University 2017, the International Guild of Realism group exhibitions at Gallery 1261 in Denver, the Marshall Gallery in Scottsdale, AZ, and in March 2018 a group exhibition at Dacia Gallery in New York City. Recent publications have included: International Artist Magazine October 2015 issue, Artists Magazine April 2017, Southwest Art Magazine, Manifest Gallery’s 2016 and 2017 International Painting Annuals INPA 6 and 7, and Luxe Beat Magazine. Museum group exhibitions have included Fort Wayne Museum of Art’s 2014 and 2012 Contemporary Realism Biennials. Kurie is a member of the International Guild of Realism and the Portrait Society of America, and is represented by the William Ris Gallery in Long Island, NY.
