— Grab your golf clubs and head out for a Golf Outing to support the Andover Regional Education Foundation (AREF) on May 22 at Farmstead Golf Club. The foundation is vital to the school system, funding supplies and activities behind the scenes that some may never know need to be subsidized.

Jeff Williams, of Andover, is coordinating this event in effort to raise funds for the AREF.

“The AREF consists of a handful of volunteers that are devoted to funding and supporting education programs,” he said. “This golf outing is very important to bring in funding.”

The Andover Regional Education Foundation is an independent, non-profit corporation that was started to strengthen community involvement in the Andover schools. It is a group of volunteers dedicated to funding and supporting educational programs which are not presently available through the school budget. The mission of the AREF is to supplement, augment and complement the basic school program by profiding new educational opportunities that would ot otherwise be available to students. Thus far, the AREF has been responsible for “active boards” in 50 percent of the schools' classrooms, financed Safety Town & HEROS, financed fifth grade lockers with the Board of Education and PTA, provided easels and carpets for the Literacy Progarm, provided Chrome Books for multiple grades, provided a speaker system for fourth grade classrooms, purchased new stage curtains, provided digital cameras for the art classrooms, provided voting pods and done many other wonderful things.

Of the outing, Williams said, “We are actively trying to get golfers to come out and enjoy a nice round of golf at Farmstead. The event will include lunch and dinner along with a chance to win some great prizes at the raffle drawing. We also need sponsors, so if you have a business and would like to help our Foundation, opportunities include sponsoring a hole. In return, we will advertise your business name. For the non-golfers and non-business owners, we are asking for individual families if they can help by making a monitary donation. Every penny helps.”

Sponsors are needed, and Williams said, “We still have a long way to go, but we are very thankful to Village Sweets, Thor Labs, DFC Structures, Union Local 46, Chelbus Cleaning and Andover Transmission for their much needed support. In the next few weeks, we are hoping to add to the list of sponsors.”

In addition to Williams, Jill Nicholas, Bob andf Patty Hanneman and Beth Wyczynski are helping coordinate the outing.

Cost to participate is just $150 per golfer and includes a continental breakfast, Grasshopper Grill for lunch “at the turn” and a prime rib dinner. Raffle items will include a big screen TV, golf outings at local golf courses, and golf bags and clubs plus many more by the time of the event. To register, visit squareup.com/store/andover-regional-school-district or you can link in through the Andover Regional Education Foundation Facebook page.
