Men's circle offered at TTOHC

NEWTON — The Tree of Health Center (TTOHC) welcomes Robert Cubby and John Drinkard to their team of facilitators, to lead a monthly Men’s Circle beginning this month.

The men’s circle is offered for men to help each other navigate the sea of men's problems and, together, find a safe harbor of suggestions and skills to cope with these problems. With Robert’s and John’s expert guidance, attendees will a) recognize how males are approaching a problem and how it could be improved, b) through discussion and exercises understand how to improve their male approach to problems, c) become familiar and recognize first half strategies and how they affect male decision making and problem solving, and d) become familiar and recognize second half strategies and how they can affect male decision making and problem solving.

Robert Cubby is a 38-year veteran of the Jersey City Police Department. With first-hand experience with PTSD, he is actively involved with bringing change to departments concerning PTSD. As part of this work, he is appearing in the award-winning documentary Code 9 - Officer Needs Assistance and is an Ambassador for Code 9 Project representing Code 9 at various screening and functions. Robert is certified in Mental Health First Aid and, together with John Drinkard facilitates a NAMI Connections Peer Support Group for PTSD in veterans and first responders.

John Drinkard is a former Marine Corps officer and Naval Aviator who served as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. John counsels veterans who are suffering from the trauma and invisible soul wounds of war. As a Program Leader he leads retreats for Soldier’s Heart (, an organization dedicated to healing the emotional, moral, heart, soul and spiritual wounds of war in Veterans and their families. John is an Interfaith Minister, Interspiritual Counselor and certified Healer. As a Shaman he received his training and expertise through the Foundation for Shamanic Studies and with prominent Celtic shamans. He also serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors at the Institute for Spiritual Development.

The first Men’s Circle will take place on Wednesday, April 11, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at TTOHC, 55 Newton Sparta Rd, Unit 107, Newton, NJ.
