The harder I brush my teeth, the better, right?

No! It might seem logical to scrub as hard as you can to remove as much food and bacteria from your teeth, but in reality, vigorous scrubbing of your teeth can cause damage to the enamel, as well as your gums! Constant irritation and abrasion of your gums can even contribute to eventual gum recession! In addition, using a medium or hard toothbrush can do the same, even if you're not a vigorous brusher. The bristles are way too hard and can lead to enamel and gum damage! Opt for a soft bristled toothbrush, and use short, but firm strokes to remove food and biofilm from your teeth.
