— The East West Karate Academy of Sparta recently held its winter shiai tournament where Sensei Scott Klinger and his experienced team of black belts led the program for over 150 students in attendance. The competition for the day focused on kata also known as forms.

At the end of the program, Sensei Scott Klinger promoted Ricky Proctor of Byram and Zabrina Branning of Sparta to 1st Degree Black Belt. Additionally Cindy Scott of Sparta and Ava Villaverde of Newton were promoted to 2nd Degree Black Belt, and Ryan Beebe of Sparta to 3rd Degree Black Belt. To reach these levels, students must train for many years and participate in competitive tournaments.
