LVRHS band wins two titles in one day


Lenape Valley Regional High School Marching Patriots

STANHOPE — On Sat. Nov 4, the Lenape Valley Regional High School Marching Patriots won back to back championships, claiming 1st place in both the US Bands Group IIA NJ State and National Championships. The day began with National Championships in Allentown, PA, with bands competing from around the northeast. The Marching Patriots finished with the winning score of 93.313, capturing additional awards for Best Color Guard and Best Overall Effect.
In the evening, at the rescheduled New Jersey State Championships held in Middletown, NJ, the Marching Patriots finished with the very high score of 96.438, capturing additional awards for Best Music, Best Visual, Best Effect, and Best Color Guard, making for an undefeated season for the Patriots Color Guard, under the direction of Nancy Shay.
The Lenape Valley Regional High School Marching Band, under the direction of Mr. David DiGrazia and assistant band director Frank Shay, dedicated over 235 hours to practice throughout the summer and fall.
The Champions were welcomed home after near 1 am by local fire, EMS and police departments who led the busload of students to Lenape Valley high school for a late night homecoming celebration. Superintendent of Schools Mr. Paul DiRupo and his wife joined by parents and friends of the band members came out in the chilly late night to meet the champions, all demonstrating their pride and honor of all things Lenape.
The 2017 NJ State and National Championships are both firsts for the Lenape Valley Regional High School Marching Patriots.
