Local students: achievements and honors

James Madison University of Harrisonburg, VA, welcomes the class of 2021 to campus this month. The incoming freshman class represents an accomplished, diverse group of individuals who hail from 35 states, the District of Columbia and 10 countries around the world. Local Sussex County students include:

Nicholas Gentile of Andover whose major is Management - BBA.

Michael Palmisano of Newton whose major is Management - BBA.

Wilkes University student Antonia Gobo of Newton was one of six students to travel to Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity 58 Grand Council Convention from Aug. 1-5 in Naples, Fla. The Wilkes-Barre, PA university's chapter, Delta Omicron, was named a Top Performing Chapter for the 2016-2017 school year. Out of 110 collegiate chapters, Delta Omicron was one of 36 chapters to receive the award, earning 93 percent of the points possible on measures such as community service and organization involvement.

Wilkes University, of Wilkes-Barre, PA, welcomes over 600 students into the class of 2021. Local Sussex County students include:

Jillian Amato of Stanhope. Amato is a sociology major.

Daniela Bernal Pineda of Newton. Bernal Pineda is an environmental engineering major.

Mark DiGeronimo of Newton. DiGeronimo has not declared a major.

Nicholas Geimer of Fredon Twp. Geimer is a management major.

Gina Gobo of Newton. Gobo is a nursing major.

Max Marroccoli of Fredon Twp. Marroccoli has not declared a major.

Prior to the start of classes on Monday, Aug. 28, incoming freshmen will attend Welcome Weekend on Aug. 25 - 27. It is a three-day weekend for all residential and commuter first year students. It begins with a convocation ceremony that formally marks the start of their academic careers at Wilkes. Other activities include a scavenger hunt of library resources, social activities, introduction to Wilkes University traditions, and a variety of informational workshops.
