James Madison University of Harrisonburg, VA, welcomes the class of 2021 to campus this month. The incoming freshman class represents an accomplished, diverse group of individuals who hail from 35 states, the District of Columbia and 10 countries around the world. Wilkes University student Antonia Gobo of Newton was one of six students to travel to Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity 58 Grand Council Convention from Aug. 1-5 in Naples, Fla. The Wilkes-Barre, PA university's chapter, Delta Omicron, was named a Top Performing Chapter for the 2016-2017 school year. Out of 110 collegiate chapters, Delta Omicron was one of 36 chapters to receive the award, earning 93 percent of the points possible on measures such as community service and organization involvement.

Wilkes University, of Wilkes-Barre, PA, welcomes over 600 students into the class of 2021. Local Sussex County students include:

Prior to the start of classes on Monday, Aug. 28, incoming freshmen will attend Welcome Weekend on Aug. 25 - 27. It is a three-day weekend for all residential and commuter first year students. It begins with a convocation ceremony that formally marks the start of their academic careers at Wilkes. Other activities include a scavenger hunt of library resources, social activities, introduction to Wilkes University traditions, and a variety of informational workshops.
