NEWTON — The Big Apple Club returns with four of NY City's hottest comedians for a special Mother's Day Weekend performance on Saturday, May 12, 2018.
In honor of Mother's Day, all Mothers in the audience will receive a complimentary glass of celebratory champagne.
Michael Somerville tried standup comedy on a dare while a student at the University of Notre Dame. He was soon emceeing Fighting Irish pep rallies and growing 70's style sideburns to do extra work in "Rudy". Upon graduation, he moved to New York City and took a job in advertising but, when his neck became irritated from shaving every day, retired to pursue comedy full time. His first job was dancing in a pink bear suit at a Bar Mitvah. He was hooked. Since then, Michael has carved a unique niche in entertainment. A comedian, TV host, writer, advice guru ... there isn’t much he doesn’t do. Michael wrote and hosted the reality show “Wingman”, imparts humorously insightful advice on The Hallmark Channel and has performed standup on The Late Show with David Letterman four times. His two comedy CD’s "Welcome to Somerville" and "Handsomely Disheveled" play in regular rotation on satellite radio. In his free time, Michael likes sleeping late and fettuccini, and loathes the sound of honking horns. While generally convivial, he is most fun after coffee.
Alexandra McHale was thrilled to make her network debut on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. She’s also been seen on CBS’s The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn, Comedy Central’s Premium Blend and New Joke City with Robert Klein on the Metro Channel. After her appearance at the prestigious Montreal Just For Laughs Comedy Festival, The Hollywood Reporter cited Alexandra as one to watch "who scored points with quick barbs." Alexandra grew up in Connecticut before relocating to New York City, where she became a life- time member of the prestigious Actors’ Studio and studied with acting greats such as Paul Newman, Sally Field and Ellen Burstyn. She is a frequent commentator on VH1’s I Love The 80’s, Supersecret TV Formulas and The 100 Most Cheesetastic Video Countdown. In addi- tion to appearances on network television, Alexandra has headlined at over 300 colleges and was voted 2002 and 2003 Female Entertainer of the Year by the readers of Campus Activities Magazine, been nominated for 2005 Female Entertainer of the Year and was nominated Performer of the Year by the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities.
Originally from New Jersey, Anthony DeVito is a NYC based comedian. He's appeared on CBS The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Comedy Central Stand Up Presents: Anthony DeVito, Comedy Central's Adam Devine's House Party, was one of the “New Faces” at the 2012 Montreal Just for Laughs Festival, has been on "This American Life," AXS TV’s Gotham Comedy Live, and was the 2015 winner of Caroline's March Madness. Also, his debut album "Dream Occupation" is available from Comedy Central Records. In addition to stand-up, he’s the head writer/regular panelist on MSG's People Talking Sports and Other Stuff, has appeared on TV Land's The Jim Gaffigan Show, and is a favorite on Sirius XM's Bennington.
In the hard-hitting New York comedy world, D.C. Benny is a heavyweight contender. His unorthodox style of comedic story-telling, seasoned with original characters, has earned him a rabid fan base of all shapes, sizes, shades and ages over the last 26 years. As an English major at the University of Maryland, he entered a talent show where he got big laughs doing impressions of all of his professors. He soon became a fixture at local comedy clubs in the D.C. area, before moving to Brooklyn NY. Benny killed on his first tv appearance on Showtime At the Apollo and has since performed in all over the U.S. and toured internationally. D.C’s Comedy Central Half Hour Special is one of the highest rated in the networks history, and he was a top 8 finalist in season 8 of Last Comic Standing. His weekly comedic story-telling show, Urban Myth, became an underground staple, where performers such as Dave Chapelle, Ben Bailey, Jim Gaffigan, Marc Maron, Jim Norton and Colin Quinn would drop by and tell their true, funny, stories.
